Es wird eine Hose! Nein, ein Kleid. Vielleicht eine Jacke?

Vor einiger Zeit hatte ich mir im Internet Stoff bestellt, mit einer genauen Vorstellung, was daraus werden sollte. Einmal goldbraunes Wildlederimitat für eine Hose und außerdem auberginefarbenen Baumwollsatin, aus dem ich meiner Schwester ein Kleid nähen wollte.

Some time ago, I ordered fabric from the Internet, already knowing, what I wanted to sew with it. I chose gold-brown suede to sew some trousers and aubergin colored cotton satin for a ballgown for my sister.

Wie immer kam alles anders als gedacht; das Wildlederimitat ist zu dünn für eine Hose und der Satin gefällt meiner Schwester doch nicht.
Ein Plan B musste also her. Was genau ich aus dem Satin nähe, weiß ich immer noch nicht, bei dem goldbrauen Stoff allerdings kam mir sehr schnell der Gedanke, dass Smocking mit dem weichen Stoff gut aussehen konnte. Da ich mich sowie so mal mit Stoffmanipulation auseinander setzen wollte, war es beschlossene Sache.

Everthing came different than expected; the suede is to thin for a pair of trousers and my sister doesn't like the satin that much after all.
So I needed a plan B. I still don't know, what to make out of the cotton satin, but regarding the gold-brown suede, I thought that some smocking could look nice with the soft fabric. I planned to try out some fabric manipulation anyways, so this was the ideal opportunity.

Auch ein Schnitt war recht schnell zu finden. Kurz hatte ich überlegt, ein Kleid zu nähen, doch dann bin ich über diesen Bolero gestolpert. Eigentlich sieht das Schnittmuster vor, den Bolero aus Sweatshirt-Stoff zu nähen, aber ich finde den Kontrast durch ungewöhnlichen Stoff sehr interessant.

I also found a pattern quickly. At first, I thought about sewing a dress, but then I stumbled upon this shrug. The pattern actually suggests to sew the shrug out of sweatshirt fabric, but I personally think the contrast achived through the unusual fabric is very interesting.

Aus Bomull (den ihr übrigens auch oben im Foto seht) war schnell ein Probeteil genäht, dabei habe ich an der Schulter Smocking eingesetzt.

I already made a muslin out of bomull (that you can see in the photo above), inserting smocking at the shoulder.

An der Seite habe ich die Schnittführung leicht verändert und auch im Rücken werde ich Smocking einsetzen.

At the sides, I slightly changed the cut and in the back, I will also insert some smocking.

Ich finde es spannend, wie unterschiedlich Stoffmanipulation bei verschiedenen Stoffen wirkt. Der dünne Bomull wirkt eher platt und unordentlich...

I find it really fascinating to see, how different fabric manipulation can look on different fabrics. On the thin bomull it looks rather flat and messy...  

 ...während gesmockter Satin viel weicher und plastischer scheint.

...while smocked satin appears softer and much more plastic.

Mittlerweile sind einige Teile aus dem Wildlederimitat zugeschnitten und Smocking hab ich auch schon fleißig ausprobiert. Fotos gibt es demnächst, ihr dürft gespannt sein. ;)

I already cut out a few pattern pieces out of the suede and tried out some smocking. I will post photos soon, you can stay curious. ;)
